History and Awards

March, 2016: The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recently awarded the Morris County SHRM its prestigious EXCEL Platinum Award for the chapter’s accomplishments in 2015.

The award is part of the SHRM Affiliate Program for Excellence, which aligns individual chapters and councils’ activities with SHRM’s aspirations for the HR profession. The award recognizes accomplishments and strategic activities and initiatives that enhance the human resources profession.

“SHRM rewards chapters and councils that demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing the human resources profession through service to the community, local networking and professional development activities,” said Henry G. (Hank) Jackson, president and CEO of SHRM. “Advancing the HR profession is at the heart of what SHRM does and this chapter’s work this year helps us further showcase that mission.”

The EXCEL award can be earned at four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum, and each level has a prescribed set of requirements and accomplishments that have to be met. Morris County SHRM will receive recognition in SHRM publications and conferences, a certificate of recognition, and a special banner to display at its meetings and events.

SHRM - Morris County Chapter, Inc. (Morris County SHRM) began March 1, 1975 with a handful of members, and has grown over the years to include more than 700 members today. We incorporated the Chapter in 2001, and hold 501(c) (3) status as a Not for Profit organization.

The purpose of our Chapter is to provide opportunities for continuing growth and education, networking and community service. We seek to raise the level of contribution and standards of performance in all phases of Human Resources and its related industries, and increase awareness of the importance of Human Resources and its related functions in the modern workplace.

Our Chapter is run almost entirely by volunteers, with one part-time paid Chapter Management Professional. Our Board Members, Chairpersons and Advocates set our Chapter's annual goals; determine programming and other member benefits; and collaborate with National SHRM, the Garden State Council and other New Jersey SHRM Chapters to serve our members.

In 2011 Morris County SHRM was awarded the Star Membership and Gold Excel Awards, and in 2010 we were received the Platinum Excel Award.

We were proud to have been designated a "Superior Merit” chapter by National SHRM for 2009 and 2008.  This prestigious award recognizes our achievements in chapter operations and our commitment to providing meaningful programs and services to our members and our community.

Through the hard work and dedication of our volunteer leaders, our chapter has achieved "Superior Merit" status through National SHRM year after year. In 2005 and in 2008 we were awarded prestigious Pinnacle Awards for our community service projects.

Today we continue our tradition of excellence through monthly educational and networking meetings, special events and community service, and we welcome suggestions from those we serve.
